Canary Fires From Space
Satellite photos released by NASA on Tuesday showed smoke from the forest fires on the Canary islands of Tenerife, center left, and Gran Canaria, center right. Expert predicted the smoke would clear by the end of the week.
Out of Control

Bulgaria Burns

According to specialists, the record-high temperatures are to blame for the recent spate of fires in the country.

Romanian Heat 'Unb-e-e-e-rable'

Temperatures rose above 42 degrees Celsius (108 Farenheit) in many areas of Romania. At least 34 people have died from heat-related problems so far, according to Romanian authorities.
Autumnal in August
The Brandenburg Gate was reflected in a windowpane as temperatures barely rose higher than 20 degrees Celsius (70 Fahrenheit) in Berlin on Wednesday. Meteorologists predict higher temperatures and sunshine for most parts of Germany over the weekend.
England Underwater
Torrential rain caused widespread disruption in Britain, where thousands of homes were evacuated. More than 48,000 homes in Gloucestershire and Herefordshire in western England were left without electricity after this flooded power station near Tewkesbury was shut down on July 23.
