Japan's premier under pressure
When the DPJ won against the Liberal Democrats, they made some easy promises. And the worst one is the pullout of one US base from Okinawa. They should have expected that anywhere else in Japan people will not accept the US base because of the population density. Even if we have sympathy for Okinawa, everyone knows about the bad conduct of US troops in Okinawa, and doesn't wish to be a neighbor of danger. If the US base went to Guam, every Japanese person would be satisfied. (The Social Democrats, a member of the coalition, proposes this.) But Washington will never say OK, because it would be 2000 kilometers away from the present location.

Complicated Indo-US nuclear relationship
If we go back in time about a decade, the Indians did not sign NPT and bore the brunt of sanctions - o boy, if you have seen the Indian defense setup, even a spoke in any wheel needs some service rendered by American technology - and more or less, had to abide by it, and still managed to get nothing out of it. Only one purpose was served - the Indian political headless chickens felt good in the thought they can't be bound by a treaty that in some way impedes them in developing nuclear weapons. In fact, they are bound by more things by not signing the treaty than actually signing the treaty.

Indian government promises strong response to Maoists
I'm shocked by the sad news that 70 Indian police were killed by the Maoist rebels in central India.
In my opinion, the Indian Maoist rebels are by no means revolutionary! Instead they are terrorists! To destroy them is to protect India's democracy! If the Indian government were to negotiate with the rebels, they would be more brutal! Of course, the Indian government must take some effective measures to reduce poverty in central India.

1.3 million IDPs in Pakistan need more help
There is less money in Main Street pockets because of the greed of some Wall Street bankers. These are just the facts of life and this will be felt for a while yet. Also, donor countries are financing troops that are fighting for no real reason and use up a lot of resources which could allieviate the need of the refugees and destitutes in the world.

Asia under the knife of cosmetic surgery
Personally, I don't think cosmetic surgeons should be called doctors. I thought medicine was for healing and preventing illness, not for crazy things like sculpting bodies. There is so much emphasis placed on physical beauty (and a very narrow definition of it) that it seems we have all but lost a sense of what is important and meaningful in the world. Are so many people that superficial? I find it scary.

Ravi Shankar turns 90
I had the honor of seeing Ravi Shankar and entourage with George Harrison in Houston, Texas in the seventies, with Billy Preston, the Dark Horse album. I will never forget. They all played together, WOW... Just wanted to share. Peace and Harmony.
