Faith Matters - The Church Program
In 2013, the World Council of Churches held its global assembly in Busan, South Korea. Christians from the host country decided to use this occasion to highlight the division of their homeland. Like Germany, the Korean Peninsular was divided at the end of World War II. Since then, a communist state in the north has confronted a western-style democracy in the south. Technically the two states have been at war since 1950. But Christians in the south have drawn hope and inspiration from the peaceful reunification of Germany in 1990. That is why they began a pilgrimage in Berlin, the capital of reunited Germany, ahead of the WCC meeting. The "peace train” made its way across Europe - from Berlin, via Moscow and Beijing, through North Korea to Busan: a distance of some 11,000 kilometres. Filmmaker Johannes Meier and cameraman Frank Witte accompanied the peace activists on their journey of faith.
