Marcus SchlenchJune 23, 2011

For decades European politicians have nurtured a vision of a united Europe - at peace politically and prosperous economically. The collapse of the communist bloc and the admission of ten eastern European countries gave that vision a huge boost. Europe is larger and has more influence in international affairs. It is also an economic powerhouse with 16 of the 27 members sharing a common currency. But beneath the surface there are sometimes serious policy differences.
