Dalai Lama Succession Suspense

November 30, 2007

Tibet’s highest spiritual leader has suggested his successor could be chosen before his death. He has also raised the option of a senior Lama being elected to replace him, as a senior cardinal replaces the Pope. For centuries, the tradition has been that the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama is sought among babies born around the time of the Dalai Lama's death.
