Combatting Slavery in China

July 5, 2007

In China, the trial of at least 12 people accused of employing forced labourers at a brick factory in the northern province of Shanxi, has begun. The scandal surfaced early last month after parents posted a plea on the Internet for help to save their children, sold into slavery in the province. The police raided several brick factories and rescued nearly 600 enslaved workers, including around 50 children.
