The city of Cologne has requested Islamic leader Metin Kaplan, who was recently deported to Turkey to stand trial on terror bombing charges, and his family pay back €170,000 ($216,000) in social assistance. In addition, Kaplan's wife and daughter are on the verge of being deported. The decision that the city has a right to the money was made by the Cologne administrative court, and was made in Kaplan's absence since he is in Turkey awaiting trial. Chief justice Günter Reuter referred to valuables that were found in a raid on the home of the self-proclaimed "Caliph of Cologne" in 1998, when valuable jewelry and some €2 million in cash were found. "We can assume the Kaplan family also had access to the money for private use," the justice wrote.
