As Peru hosts the United Nations climate summit in Lima this week, a report by the NGO Global Witness has revealed the country is failing to protect its carbon-rich forests – and the lives of the people living in them. Recently, illegal loggers were charged with the murder of four indigenous land rights campaigners. Peru is one of the world’s most dangerous places for environmental activism.
