Celebrating the Life of Inventor and Engineer Rudolf Diesel

German inventor and engineer Rudolf Diesel first presented his motor to the world in 1897. It was an engine more powerful than anything the world had seen before.

Rudolf Diesel had worked for four years on developing the new engine at the MAN engineering factory in Augsburg in southern Germany. His idea was to compress air in the combustion chamber, thereby heating it so much that injected fuel was triggered to self-ignite.
