Bundesliga Round 27 in Pictures
Fans in Munich were hoping to celebrate yet another Bayern Bundesliga title. But although the Bavarians absolutely destroyed Hamburg, a narrow win by Dortmund meant the champagne has to remain on ice.
Dortmund postpone title decision
Dortmund rarely have much luck against Stuttgart so there was little reason to think they could pick up all three points on their trip to southern Germany. But Lukasz Piszczek headed the reigning champs in front, and they held on eventually for a 2-1 win. The result meant that Bayern, who played in the late match, could not clinch the crown.
Bayern's bench pulverizes Hamburg
Knowing that they couldn't wrap up the title, Bayern took to the pitch against Hamburg with three reserves in the side - Shaqiri, Robben and Pizarro. But Bayern's reserves are pretty darn good, and Munich were already 5-0 up at halftime against a punching bag of an opponent. Bayern added on four more in the second half and conceded two (both from corners) for a final score of 9-2.
Dynamic duo puts Leverkusen past Düsseldorf
Stefan Kiessling and André Schürrle are one of the best strike pairings in the Bundesliga, and they were at their lethal best against Fortuna in Düsseldorf. Both bagged a brace, as Leverkusen ran out 4-1 winners and solidified their hold on third place.
Kruse gifts Freiburg win over new club Gladbach
The man of the match in upstarts Freiburg's 2-0 home win against Mönchengladbach was 25-year-old midfielder Max Kruse. He scored both of the goals for the Southern Germans, who continued their unlikely bid for European football next season. The irony: Kruse is moving to Gladbach next year.
Hanover dampen Augsburg's hopes
Third-from-bottom Augsburg came into their home match against Hanover riding a hot streak and bidding to pull off an unlucky escape act from the drop zone. But they were brought back to earth by a pair of goals by Konstantin Rausch, and Hanover emerged as 2-0 winners.
Mainz split points at home against Werder Bremen
12.6 seconds – that was all it took for the hosts to go ahead after one of Bremen's patented defensive blunders. A grateful Adam Szalai slotted home the gift for the third-quickest goal in Bundesliga history. But Bremen fought back and earned a 1-1 draw on a goal by Aaron Hunt.
Schalke slide past Hoffenheim
For 70 minutes Schalke versus Hoffenheim was an absolute yawn-fest. Then the Royal Blues seemed to decide that there was no way they could afford a home embarrassment against Germany's second-worst team. Marco Höger found his range first, and Schalke eased to an ultimately comfortable 3-0 victory.
Wolfsburg and Nuremberg battle to draw
Hosts Wolfsburg were all over their guests at the start of this one and went two goals ahead after less than a half an hour. But after the interval, Nuremberg came out fighting and found the net twice themselves. Wolfsburg were somewhat fortunate to earn a point from the 2-2 draw after throwing away the lead.
Frankfurt hand Greuther Fürth another home loss
Frankfurt came into this match on a six-game winless streak, but there's no better place to go than Fürth if you're looking for three points. Takashi Inui opened the visitors scoring account, and they ran out 3-2 winners. Fürth are still looking for their first-ever Bundesliga win at home - and the last-placed club is running out of time.
