The DW-AKADEMIE and the German Development Service (DED) are cooperating for the first time on a long-term project in Latin America. The project aims to promote quality journalism in Bolivia.

DW-AKADEMIE’s partner on location is a university in the Bolivian capital, La Paz. Starting in June, DW journalist and instructor Peter Deselaers will be stationed there as a development worker for DED, initially for two years. He will coordinate DW-AKADEMIE projects in Bolivia and also conduct workshops. The project also aims to involve university lecturers from the communications sciences.

“It’s a classic win-win situation for everyone”, says Johanna Bucher, DED regional manager for Latin America and the Caribbean.

“We want to expand our range of training and consulting services for local television and radio stations in Bolivia,” says Petra Berner, DW-AKADEMIE’s Latin America division manager. “That’s why it’s important for us to have a contact person in La Paz. That we can continuously optimize and evaluate our projects on location”.

Additional specialists will be sent to Latin America for special training courses or consulting services.

In addition to Bolivia, there are more joint projects in the pipeline. These include a further collaboration with DED in Guatemala and another in Colombia with the Center for International Migration (CIM).
