Bidding War over Cannibal Story

A bidding war has broken out for the rights to film the life of the German cannibal, Armin Meiwes, according to his lawyer. A British production company was said to be among those interested. Meiwes could receive more than €1 million from the film rights as German law allows criminals to make money from their crimes. The 42-year-old computer engineer was sentenced last week to eight and a half years in prison for killing, dismembering and eating another man. Meiwes met his willing victim, a 43-year-old Berlin man named Bernd-Jürgen Brandes, on the Internet. Before stabbing and dismembering Brandes, Meiwes cut off the other man’s penis and both ate it in front of a video camera. Meiwes’ lawyer, Harald Ermel, says contractual agreements prevent him from disclosing the companies interested. “But it’s early days and we’re getting more offers all the time,” he said.
