It's a conservation conundrum: How can cash-strapped Berlin can preserve its biodiversity and water quality, as well as conserving its rich wetland habitats? Machinery wreaks havoc on the delicate ecosystems, not to mention the high costs involved. So instead, Berlin's trying something new - water buffalo. It’s hoped the mega-herbivores will be able to balance the ecosystem.
