In Spain, the summer bullfighting season is underway. But the country remains mired in recession, with an unemployment rate of 27 percent and the economic crisis has started to affect the bullfighting business. With animal rights campaigners calling for the abolition of the fiesta, its future as one of the country’s most emblematic pastimes is in doubt. Guy Hedgecoe reports from Madrid.
