All roads lead to King's Landing

Dominik Ahrens, Guido BaumhauerSeptember 15, 2014

The world meets on King’s Road. The further you are from the King’s Landing expressway, the further you are from civilization. Now is the time for a comprehensive infrastructure program.

At first glance, the shape of Westeros is reminiscent of the United Kingdom. But the distance makes the difference. There’s not even 1,000 kilometers between the north and south ends of the United Kingdom. The continent of Westeros is at least as large as South America. At least – because it is still unclear how far the territory stretches to the north beyond the wall.

Viewers are left to believe that King’s Road, which stretches from the wall to King’s Landing, is apparently the only thoroughfare. Utterly amazing. If someone needs to travel, they take King’s Road.

Chance meetings guaranteed

Admittedly, this concentration can be advantageous. If everyone is using the same road, they will automatically meet at the same place: Inn at the Crossroads. It’s a wonderful coincidence, especially considering how many people just run into each other in such a large country.

In addition, the King’s Road must be the universe’s gold standard when it comes to road quality. What other explanation could be given to the fact that travelers like Melisandre or Littlefinger can make it half way across the continent in such a small amount of time?

Pork barrel politics for hoteliers?

The know-how in road construction is exemplary. What’s missing is the capital, the determination and the political stability for a comprehensive infrastructure program to connect the communities and expedite transportation. Many involved hold the treasurer personally responsible. It’s conceivable that Lord Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish wants to promote monopolistic competition. He is, to some degree, a hotelier himself.
