Trevi Fountain in Rome

Trevi Fountain is a famous landmark in Rome which is visited by millions of tourists from around the world. It is known for its impressive architecture and also its legend.

Legend says that throwing coins into a fountain can bring luck. In the case of the Trevi Fountain the legend says that if you throw a coin over your left shoulder into the fountain's waters, then you're destined to return to Rome. Countless tourists put this to the test, so much so, that every year coins worth a million euro are thrown into the fountain.

Trevi Fountain is a master piece by Italian architect Nicola Salvi and was completed in 1762. The central figure of the fountain is a marble statue of the primordial god of the sea Oceanus in his shell chariot being guided by Tritons. The Trevi was also the setting for an iconic scene in Federico Fellini's 1960 film "La Dolce Vita", in which the characters played by Anita Ekberg and Marcello Mastroianni bathe in the fountain.
