When it's not been overcome by soccer madness, Frankfurt is the financial heart of Germany. And you can't miss the banking district, distinguished by its many skyscrapers. Click on the video below to explore the history of the city with visits to Römer Square, which is the backdrop for the old town hall and the Kaiserdom cathedral, where Holy Roman emperors were once crowned.
Frankfurt is a rich blend of history, art and culture. Hardly any other German city boasts as many museums in such a small area. Among the best is the Städel Museum, which houses a world famous collection of 17th-century paintings.
After the hustle and bustle of the city, the nearby Taunus region offers visitors a setting of peace and quiet. Its wooded hills are the perfect place for walking and biking, while half-timbered houses, castle ruins and the Saalburg Roman fort provide a window into the history of the region.
