There have been demonstrations in the capitals of Iran and Afghanistan against cartoons published in a French satirical magazine. The US government has condemned the publication of the Prophet Mohammad caricatures calling them offensive. In Paris police have banned a demonstration in front of the Grand Mosque. The French government is temporarily closing diplomatic and other missions in several countries fearing a Muslim backlash.
