Will she really become chancellor for a fourth term? Or will the Social Democrats with Martin Schulz succeed in reviving their initial popularity in the opinion polls? What coalition options will be on the table? Will the Greens hold the balance of power? Will the Free Democrats re-enter parliament? Will the rightwing populist AfD cross the five percent threshold? The 2017 general election promises to be an exciting race. Observers abroad are also keen to discover what the outcome of the poll might mean for Europe’s largest economy in international politics. And: How has the poll been impacted by the “refugee crisis?”
From 14:00 GMT/UTC on 24 September, Deutsche Welle's television schedule will be devoted entirely to election coverage. DW will provide results and explain what these mean – in up-to-the-minute and comprehensive reporting – in a rolling news format. In conversations with winners and losers, and in analyses, DW will brief international audiences on the decisive issues affecting the outcome of the election.
